Karen, Jacques, and Pierre play a board game on a rainy day.

 

 

Jacques: Karen, c’est à ton tour.
Karen, it’s your turn.
Karen: J’en ai douze ! Un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six —
I have twelve! One, two, three, four, five, six —
Pierre: Continue.
Keep going.
Karen: Sept, huit, neuf, dix, onze, douze.
Seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve.
Jacques: Tu es tombée sur une case noire. Tu dois revenir en arrière.
You landed on a black square. You have to go back.
Pierre: Pauvre Karen ! Maintenant, regarde comment le maître joue.
Poor Karen! Now see how the master plays.
Karen: Jacques, ton fils est impoli.
Jacques, your son is rude.
Jacques: Il obtiendra sa récompense.
He will get his reward.
Pierre: Mais au moins je suis en tête. Roule les dés, Papa.
But at least I’m in the lead. Roll the dice, Papa.
Jacques: Un, deux – dix, vingt, trente, quarante, cinquante.
One, two – ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty.
Karen: Très drôle, Jacques ! Mon tour.
Very funny, Jacques! My turn.
Pierre: Oh, non ! Maintenant Karen est en tête !
Oh, no! Now Karen is in the lead!
Karen: Non, Pierre. Je gagne !
No, Pierre. I win!
Jacques: Maintenant, nous devons compter nos points.
Now we need to count our points.
Pierre: J’ai cent soixante-quinze.
I have one hundred seventy-five.
Jacques: J’ai cent trente-deux.
I have one hundred thirty-two.
Karen: J’ai deux cent vingt et un.
I have two hundred twenty-one!
Pierre: Peut-être devrions-nous faire autre chose.
Maybe we should do something else.
